Artist's Bio
Art played a big part of my life, until I was about twenty. Ten years later, it would play a more important role, now its importance is beyond obvious.
As an art major in high school, I thoroughly enjoyed being in a room an hour a day where I could get away from facts, lectures and confined thought. I loved experimenting with various media. Not that art was easy for me, I felt at home creating art, and loved being with other creators. As a Junior, I was part of a local show for one of my intaglio prints.
Starting out as an art major in college, I eventually surrendered to writing software as my mainstay. I knew that one day I would find a way back to the art world. That day came when a picture of an acrylic painting caught my eye in the Boulder Camera ("Untitled Acrylic #1", by Paul Gillis). I still love looking at it. That one little picture sparked me big time. Stocking up on acrylic paint, and learning how to stretch canvas, I was on my way again. Though artistically dormant (possibly, the incubation stage), for several years, I have made up for lost ground in a big way. I used to have to make time for art, now I have to make time for other things.
Printmaking, mainly monotypes and monoprints, have become my current media. To start the new millennium off, I enrolled in Mark Lunning's monotype class at the Art Student's League of Denver. Since then, I have spent hundreds of hours in the League's printmaking studio. I went on learn to how to etch zinc and solar plates for intaglio prints, carve linoleum for relief prints and also enrolled in screen printing and lithography classes. I have thought of myself as an artist for quite a few years, but now I can also say that I am a printmaker. What I love the most about printmaking is that the possibilities are endless.
In addition to Colorado, to date, I have exhibited my prints my prints in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Washington DC, Bulgaria and Denmark.
